This unique 1957 Mercedes-Benz LF 311 vintage fire truck in concours condition is of significant value to collectors and classic vehicle enthusiasts.
It was originally purchased by the plant fire brigade of Chemische Werke Hüls AG in Herne-Wanne.
The TroSLF 16 with body by Carl Metz served as a group fire engine designated as LF 16-S (special build).
With a different body configuration, it was able to transport 560 liters of foam agent and 750 kg of powder, making this vehicle particularly versatile.
The large loudspeaker mounted on the roof was used for important announcements to plant employees and the public.
The vehicle remained in active service at Chemische Werke Hüls AG until the late 1980s and was then taken over and carefully restored by the Herne Volunteer Fire Brigade, “In der Wanne” unit.
